“Panda Security is once again in the news thanks to its leadership and technological innovation. In collaboration with Defence Intelligence and international law enforcement agencies, we have shut down a major cyber-criminal botnet -dubbed Mariposa or Butterfly- which was being used to control almost 13 million computers worldwide”

“"It would be easier for me to provide a list of the Fortune 1000 companies that weren’t compromised, rather than the long list of those who were”.      Christopher Davis, CEO for Defence Intelligence, who first discovered the Mariposa botnet.

Panda Security and Defence Intelligence coordinate massive botnet shutdown with international law enforcement.

Sensitive data stolen from a global network of an estimated 13 million compromised personal, corporate, government and university computers in more than 190 countries included account information, usernames, passwords, banking credentials, and credit card data. The data speaks for itself:

  • 13 million infected computers controlled remotely by a cyber-crime network called Mariposa.
  • Data from 800,000 users in 190 countries in their hands. A global cyber-attack of massive proportions.
  • Financial and personal data theft affecting almost 13 million computers.
  • Victims include over 50 percent of the top 1000 companies in the world.
  • Preliminary damages estimated to be in the millions of dollars.
