I've Deleted Some Files, How Can I Get Them Back?
Have you accidentally deleted some files or folders and need data recovery in Bristol & Gloucestershire areas?
Our data recovery services can very often recover lost data using specialist recovery methods, so for now, stop using your computer and contact us

***  IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO STOP USING YOUR COMPUTER ***

DON'T INSTALL ANYTHING. THE MORE YOU DO, THE LESS CHANCE YOU HAVE OF RECOVERY.

If you have deleted some information and need to get it back, DO NOT USE YOUR SYSTEM until we can come and take a look. Deleting data doesn't mean it's gone, it just means it can't been seen. If you have deleted something then stop and get some help. If you continue to use your system in the hopes of getting it back later, this could prevent data recovery as you might over-write the deleted files with newly saved files. By not using the system and by not saving any new files, it makes recovering deleted information much easier and more probable.

Where Have My Deleted Files Gone?
To make this simple, files or data that has been deleted is removed from view until the section of the hard drive which that data was occupying is used by some other data. In other words, it's still in the same place and using the same space, but you just can't link to it or get to it without specialist tools or software. The "only way" to delete that data is to save new data to that space. This can't be deliberately done because saved data is put in various areas of a disk, but to avoid losing data you want to get back, it's best to stop using the computer just in case new data chooses to save over the data you want to get back. Once the deleted data has been over-written by new data, it's nearly impossible to get it back.

If you've deleted something and really need to get it back, leave the problem of how to recover deleted data to us.

Types of hard drive data loss

Logical failure

  • The hard drive is in working order but some files or data cannot be accessed for logical reasons such as a lost partition or accidental reformatting.
  • Hard drives are imaged. A copy of the disk is made and transferred to a new system. We also have tools that can "force" the drive to read around the bad area.

Mechanical failure

  • The hard drive is not functioning. Most usually caused by head crashes and motor failures.
  • Recoveries are performed in dust-free cleanroom environments where they are carefully dismounted, examined and processed.

What causes hard drive failure?

The most common reasons that we see for hard drive failure are:

  • Power surges
  • Overwritten data
  • Physical damage
  • Natural disasters
  • Viruses

Signs that your desktop or laptop is likely to experience data loss

What to do when your desktop or laptop is failing

  • Turn off your computer immediately - further operation may damage the data beyond repair.
  • Do not restart your computer.
  • Do not install or re-install any software.
  • Do not shake, disassemble, remove or attempt to clean a hard drive you suspect is damaged.
  • Do not attempt to dry a wet computer.
  • If the data is of high-value, do not use file recovery or other utility software.
  • Never attempt to operate any visibly damaged devices
